SATs maths practice for Year 6
Arithmetic, reasoning, and problem-solving support for KS2 (Year 6) SATs maths.
SATs maths covers three areas: arithmetic (quick calculations), reasoning (multi-step problems and word questions), and problem-solving. Children sit one arithmetic paper and two reasoning papers.
Many children find the reasoning papers trickier than the arithmetic — not because the maths is harder, but because the questions require careful reading and the ability to choose the right method. Practising how to break down a question is just as important as practising the calculations themselves.
Our maths guides focus on the areas that tend to trip children up most, with worked examples and parent-friendly explanations you can use at home.
- Clear breakdowns of arithmetic, reasoning, and problem-solving question types
- Guidance on common mistakes and how to address them before test day
- Parent-friendly explanations so you can support your child even if maths is not your strength
- Calculators are not allowed in any maths paper — all working must be done by hand
