Quick links

KS1 (Year 2) reading papers

KS1 reading tests have been non-statutory since the 2023 to 2024 academic year, but official optional materials are still published.

These official pages include the reading papers, mark schemes and administration materials.

KS2 (Year 6) reading papers

For KS2, the reading paper is a one-hour test built around three texts.

If you want older Year 6 reading papers too, you can apply for free access to our Year 6 past papers library, which includes papers from 2016 to 2019.

The official pages include the reading booklet, answer booklet and mark schemes.

A simple way to practise reading at home

  • Do one short section or one question type at a time.
  • Ask your child to prove answers with a quote.
  • Focus on what the question is really asking before worrying about speed.

For practical reading routines, use: Year 6 reading comprehension SATs: practical home support.

Reading improves fastest when children prove answers with evidence, not guesses.
